When starting school, we were always told by our teachers, as well as parents, not to cheat. Usually, when told we would realte this back to copying someone elses homework, glancing over someone’s shoulder when testing, or creating a cheat sheet, to perhaps help us memorize out vocabulary. Well, I must admit, that when entering college, my concept, of one, “cheating”, changed. Plagarism, the act of not citing the work of someone else, thus taking credit as if it were your own is now considered cheating. However, the punishment for the act seems unjust.Plagarism can be both intentionally, and unintentionally done. For not everyone is aware of how to properly cite there work. Therefore, I believe that for a first offense, one should simply be ordered to go to the ARC and meet with the writing instructor, to learn about how to properly cite material. If a second offense occurs, then the person, should have to do double the amount of work, for instance, if there was a 3 page essay to be turned in, that person should be ordered to do 6 pages. The third offense should result in automatically loosing 25% off of there grade. I think it is a bit to critical to kick someone out of school, for plagarisms.
